Westwood Historical Society Presents AAA: Its History, Benefits and Resources Online

Mary Maguire is the Director of Public and Government Affairs at AAA Northeast (Westwood branch) and the Media Spokesperson for AAA Northeast in Massachusetts. She also handles government relations for the Club at the Massachusetts State House. Mary will discuss her work at the State House and how AAA has changed over the years, offering new resources and travel opportunities.

During her 13-year tenure at AAA, Mary helped pass the ban on texting while driving in Massachusetts, and both the Distracted Driving and the Slow Down, Move Over laws in the Commonwealth. Prior to joining AAA Public Affairs in 2008, Mary was a long-time broadcast journalist and the Consumer and Business Affairs reporter (with WJAR-TV Providence, RI), a morning show anchor in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and a weekend anchor in Plattsburgh, New York. After leaving TV news, Mary founded her own video production company, producing marketing videos, commercials, infomercials, and hundreds of stories for Food Network, Style Network, and HGTV--Home and Garden television.

Mary will be joined by John Paul, the Senior Manager of Traffic Safety and Public Affairs – and also known as AAA’s Car Doctor. John is in his 37th year with AAA and is a certified AAA Driver Improvement instructor, child passenger safety instructor and an ASE certified master technician. John writes weekly automotive columns for Boston.com, The Providence Journal, New York Newsday and several other NY and Massachusetts newspapers. In addition, John hosts the Car Doctor radio program on WBLQ radio each Saturday morning from 10-11. As AAA’s automotive consumer advocate, he helps readers, listeners and AAA members with their car problems and buying decisions. John has evaluated over 1500 new vehicles and is currently the president of the New England Motor Press Association. Bring your car questions!
